Nashua Conservation Commission

The NCC was created to inventory, monitor, protect, and steward our local Environment. The Commission looks at projects that affect our watershed, and works with the community to develop creative solutions that satisfy the needs of homeowners, developers, and the environment as a whole.

Common Questions

  • A wetland buffer is a defined area adjacent to a wetland. It is the vegetated transition zone between an upland area and the aquatic ecosystem. Wetland buffers help to maintain healthy wetlands. Nashua recognizes their value and the local land use code has wetland buffer requirements. Click here to learn more.

  • Using vegetative borders rather than a fence can allow wildlife to move freely. Limit mowing near the edges to support wildlife and nesting habitat. Removing invasive species and using native plants in your landscaping can support biodiversity. Click here to learn more.

  • Call the city and ask questions before doing any work near a wetland or wetland buffer area, including removing trees and vegetation. Your project may require review by the Nashua Conservation Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustment or others, including the State. Visit our Wetlands page for more info.

  • Learn more about best management practices (BMPs) such as native seed mixes for landscaping, manual or chemical treatments to control invasive plants, erosion control measures, and more! Click here to learn more.

  • The Commission will often take on projects to bring about the restoration of wildlife habitats that were wrongfully (and sometimes illegally) impacted by human interference. Volunteers are welcome to assist during occasional “work days” at our various conservation properties. Click here to get in touch!
